Spring Dance Concert features faculty, guest artist and student ...

The Department of Theatre & Dance will present its Spring Dance Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27 and 28, in the Ted Paul Theatre of the Earley Center for Performing Arts.

The Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre & Dance will present its Spring Dance Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27 and 28, in the Ted Paul Theatre of the Earley Center for Performing Arts.

In addition to pieces choreographed by Dance faculty Dr. Julie Kerr-Berry and Daniel Stark, the concert will feature works by Andreas Guest Artists Zenon Dance Company of Minneapolis and department adjunct faculty member Jill Lile. Three pieces choreographed by Dance majors Bridget Carlson, Alexa Lautenbach (a new BFA Dance candidate) and Sydney Burch will complete the program.

Stark?s pieces include a restaging of his 2003 work, ?Diplomacy,? and Lile?s is a tarantella, an Italian folk dance usually performed to a lively 6/8 rhythm. Zenon Dance Company is one of the nation?s premier repertory dance companies, captivating audiences with a rare and dynamic blend of modern and jazz. The piece choreographed by their dancers and performed by Minnesota State students explores the ?suits? of gender that are placed on men and women in society. Using a suit coat to symbolize the performance of masculinity, this work probes beneath this layer to reveal the fictional lives men are expected to ?wear.?

Tickets for the Spring Dance Concert are $10 regular, $9 discounted (youth, seniors over 65 and groups of 15 or more) and $8 for current Minnesota State Mankato students. At 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, a Student Dance Showcase will be presented, featuring student-choreographed pieces. Cost is $5; tickets are available at the door only.?
