The Coaches vs. Cancer student group at Penn State is used to holding a 5k ? they?ve done it every year for over a decade. This year, though, things are a little different.
The race starts and end at home plate of Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, and it?s being held at night for the first time ever.
David Suhan, the 5k Race Chair for Coaches vs. Cancer, said that this is the group?s largest fundraiser every year.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a national group that donates time and money to the American Cancer Society. Former head basketball coach Ed DeChellis took a big part in bringing it to Penn State?s campus, and current coach Pat Chambers has made strides for the group in his time here.
The student group is the only one of its kind across the country. All other CVC groups are run by adults and through basketball programs.
To run (or walk) in the race, the registration fee is $15. This includes a free DelGrosso?s pasta dinner on Thursday night at Grace Lutheran Church from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. On Friday night, the first 150 to register will?receive?a free t-shirt.
Suhan?added, ?We know the weather won?t be 75 and sunny like last year, but cancer doesn?t care what the weather?s like.?
