The Trustees of Boston University is requesting compensation on devices that have utilized the patent, credited to Professor Theodore D. Moustakas, Ph.D, as well as a ban on the iPad, MacBook Air, and iPhone 5.

However, it appears the Massachusetts university filed a similar lawsuit against Apple rival, Samsung Electronics Co.

According to Boston University's claim, "Defendants [Samsung] regularly and deliberately engaged in and/or continue to engage in activities that result in using, selling, offering for sale, and/or importing infringing products and products made by infringing processes in and/or into the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and this judicial district."

The claim added Samsung violated Boston University's U.S. patent right under patent '738 and '703.

Patent '703 is known as "Method of Making a Semiconductor Device with Exposure of Sapphire Substrate to Activated Nitrogen," and was filed in Oct. 11, 2005.

Apple and Samsung have not responded on the university's claim.
